Ending conflict
We all see daily acts of violence,
destruction and oppression. In many regions of this world, people's
basic needs are not being met and their right to dignity and life is taken from them - almost always because of war, racism,
political manipulation of resources, religious conflicts, lust for power and the desire for control over others.
All these problems exist because of fear
and greed. Fear and greed drive every one of us. Oddly, we see no harm in that.
When
you seek to climb the corporate ladder or lead your community - you
fuel the fire of conflict - yet you believe it's your right to be
ambitious above all other concerns. The best leader is the one who can show others how to lead themselves.
When you find pleasure in winning -
you are making a contribution to the next war - yet today's culture promotes winning
above all else. Instead seek the pleasure of bringing freedom of spirit to others and giving others inspiration. Never
put down another person for your own gain - but lift them up -
encourage them to improve themselves, even if it means they will become
better than you.
When you glorify competitiveness - you are creating
violence - yet your leaders encourage you to put others out of
business. The best competition is the one you make with yourself -
expand your potential, build on your talents, improve your skills.
Better yet - help others expand their potential, grow their talents,
improve their skills - with compassion, generosity, and for lasting
peace.
Fear propagates fear. Greed
propagates greed. They are like cancers. They turn religion, politics
and business into killing machines. They turn communities into tribal
armies. They turn people into arrogant destructive anti-humans.
The ultimate root of all of today's
wars and conflicts lies in the greed and fear that
existed thousands of
years ago. Every new war lays the foundation for future wars - by
perpetuating fear and greed. Every bomb dropped in a distant land will
create future enemies for thousands of years to come. Every threat
creates a more devious form of violence.
To stop future conflict - work
towards ending conflict by learning how to end fear and greed.
Explore the roots of fear and greed - two of the most significant obstacles to
spiritual exploration and healing. Start now.
