The spiritual quest of the independent soul ...
You have explored many forms of religion - many varieties of
Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Sufi, Kabbalah, Buddhism, Yoga, Hinduism,
Vedanta, Jainism, indigenous cultures, and so on. You've discovered -
along with many others - that many people practice religion out of
habit, that religion is a political device for propaganda, that
it is often used to manipulate people through their fear of death and
other sufferings. You've
delved into ancient wisdom teachings. You've explored the way that
certain plants can brighten your senses and awareness - intensify your
imagination, giving you visions. You've listened to a few New Age
teachers, channeled entities. You've learned a dozen forms of
meditation - you've had some deep and profound experiences of different
states of awareness. You've accumulated a vast collection of ideas,
theories, frontier scientific ideas, fringe theories. You've followed
frontier science as it delves into the connections between DNA,
consciousness, quantum physics, relativity.. You've learned to
recognize cults, discriminate between deceivers and
sincere-but-misguided explorers. You've become aware of how easy it is
to convince oneself that one has absolute knowledge.
We are driven by these questions ... "Somewhere in all this, there has
to be something that will bring freedom, wisdom, knowledge, power,
peace, unity. Who can give this to me? Where can I find it?"
The process of exploration can be exhausting. We are bound to encounter
many disappointments. Eventually we may become tempted to either latch on to a belief
system or become a
total skeptic. Our spirit of exploration looses steam. Our sense of
adventure in spiritual exploration diminishes.
Time to hit the reset button ... explore these insights ... provide new impetus to your quest.
